Because the numbers come from the answer pool itself rather than an opinion, they hold up whichever way you slice them — and they update automatically if the pool changes.

That last point matters more than it used to. In early 2026 the New York Times began recycling older solutions, because the original list of roughly 2,300 everyday words was running low.
